Conversation Between Colleagues

English for Academic Purposes

Our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programs are designed for students who wish to apply themselves in an English-speaking academic context such as a university course. As students graduate from our secondary program to our EAP programs, rather than basing their learning on the four integrated skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking, they concentrate on individual skills per course, tied to the specific needs of the student. This allows students to tailor their English to suit the requirements of higher education, business and the demands of living abroad. To match these requirements, LEIT offers the following programs:

Teens Conversation (Pronunciation, Listening, and Speaking)

Learning source: Oxford University Press

Listening and speaking are perhaps the two skills used most frequently in daily language communication. To be able to perform these two aspects of English well will create self-confidence within learners – a quality particularly useful if they wish to interact with foreigners without inhibitions. Therefore, LEIT offers a Teens Conversation program to equip students with these two vital skills. This program is unique for its features, including video activities that provide real-life language models for students to follow and the use of authentic sources adopted from the natural spoken language of native speakers. The course also provides interactive online speaking and recording facilities to give the students accurate and informed graded feedback.

Academic Writing

Learning Source: Oxford University Press

Writing is a skill that is often overlooked by English courses but it has many uses and applications in life (and especially business). While personal writing can be a free process of expression, academic writing uses a specific set of rules to communicate often complex ideas that may require author referencing. Punctuation, spelling and grammar must be accurate and fit traditional methods of writing.

LEIT’s Academic Writing Program will build a solid foundation for students to achieve a high level of skill in this field. Participants will learn about the correct applications of style, structure, punctuation, and grammar, all of which are unique to formal English writing. The writing assignments include academic vocabulary and readings that prepare students for the challenges of the academic classroom. Each unit introduces an academic content theme and writing tasks that guide students through the writing process, from sentence level to short essay.
