English for Young Learners

The early years are widely recognized as the foundation for a child’s overall development. In particular, the first six years are critical for young children as they begin to develop their first language and cultural identity. During this period, children actively build their understanding of the world around them. For those from non-English-speaking backgrounds, the home language(s) used since birth play a vital role in forming meaningful relationships and fostering effective communication and interaction (Siraj-Blatchford and Clarke, 2000).

LEIT recognizes the importance of introducing language at an early stage of a child’s development and has therefore designed a specialized program tailored for young learners. The program consists of four (4) different categories:

 

Early Childhood
Age.           : 2 – 4 years old (based on placement test results)
Level    : 8 levels
Duration    : 2 – 3 months per level; up to 2 years to complete
Subjects   : Functional language (e.g., greetings and self-introduction), introduction to the alphabet and phonetic sounds (A–Z), numbers (1–20), as well as simple vocabulary and basic grammar

 

Preparatory
Age   : 4 – 4.5 years old (based on placement test results)
Level    : 2 levels
Duration    : 2 – 3 months per level; up to 6 months to complete
Subjects    : Phonics, vocabulary development, and simple reading skills

 

Kindergarten
Age    : 4.5 – 5 years old (based on placement test results)
Level     : 2 levels
Duration     : 2 – 3 months per level; up to 6 months to complete
Subjects     : Vocabulary enrichment, basic grammar, and simple reading

 

Post-Kindergarten
Age    : 5 – 5.5 years old (based on placement test results)
Level     : 2 levels
Duration     : 2 – 3 months per level; up to 6 months to complete
Subjects     : Vocabulary development, basic grammar, paragraph reading, and sentence writing
